In a significant development, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicines (VANEM) has formally submitted a proposal to its members for a name change and an expanded focus. The proposed new name is the Vietnam Association of Clinical Neurophysiology (VACN), indicating a broader scope beyond electrodiagnostic medicine. The board’s proposal aims to comprehensively represent the association’s activities and align with international standards.
New Association Name
The current Vietnamese name, “Hội bệnh thần kinh cơ và chẩn đoán điện Việt Nam,” and its English counterpart, “Vietnam Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicines (VANEM),” will be replaced by the new names: “Hội Sinh Lý Thần kinh Lâm sàng Việt Nam” in Vietnamese and “Vietnam Association of Clinical Neurophysiology (VACN)” in English. The proposed name change reflects the association’s commitment to embracing a broader range of clinical neurophysiology activities.
Expanded Scope of Activities
VACN’s professional activities in the upcoming term will extend beyond the traditional domain of electrodiagnosis. The association will now encompass various clinical neurophysiology practices, including peripheral nerve and muscle ultrasound, electroencephalography (EEG), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and more. This expansion aligns VACN with the activities of the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) and its member societies.
