On August 10, 2023, a significant workshop focused on muscle biopsies and myopathies took place, featuring the participation of leading experts in this field. This special event allowed experts and interested individuals to exchange knowledge, share discoveries, and collectively enhance their understanding of muscle biopsies and myopathy-related issues.
Dr. Nishino (Japan)
Among the experts who participated in the workshop, Dr. Nishino from Japan was the Director of the Neuromuscular Research Department at the National Center for Neurology and Psychiatry. With profound neurology knowledge and a neurologist background, he has led a research laboratory dedicated to studying myopathies and has published over 600 papers on PubMed. This is a testament to his valuable contributions to exploring muscle-related disorders.
Professor Umapathi (Singapore)
Not only did Japanese experts contribute, but Dr. Umapathi from Singapore, a physician at the National Neuroscience Institute, also participated, marking international collaboration in sharing knowledge about muscle biopsies and myopathies.
Professor Tuan Vu (USA)
There was also notable participation from Dr. Tuan Vu from the United States at this workshop. He is a professor in the Department of Neurology and concurrently serves as the Director of the Neuromuscular and Electromyography (EMG) Laboratory. Dr. Vu’s research focuses on treating myopathies, including ALS, myasthenia gravis, peripheral nerve diseases, and myositis.
Sharing Knowledge and Techniques
The workshop facilitated access for attendees to new knowledge and advanced techniques in muscle biopsies and myopathies. Experts shared insights into muscle biopsy techniques and how to diagnose and differentiate various myopathies using quantitative electromyography (EMG) techniques. This was a precious opportunity to gain further understanding and awareness of issues related to myopathies.
